Underdiet: what are the risks?

A damaged engine is expensive to repair. The reactor is a complex structure, consisting of a hundred parts perfectly coordinated with each other. Modern engines can hold several hundred thousands of kilometers, provided that the machine is rigorously and regularly maintained. Read here what you need to pay attention for proper operation of the engine.

What does the engine need?

An engine needs six things to operate: — Fuel — Ignition current — Air — Cooling — Lubrication — Management. If one of the first three elements fails, it usually affects only the engine. In case of cooling, lubrication or management, there is a risk that the equipment will break.

Well lubricate is driving safely

Lubrication of the engine is done through the oil circuit. The lubricant is pumped by the pump oil throughout the engine. In this way, it causes a slippery fit in all moving parts. This is especially important for storage, cylinders, valves and drive shafts. If the lubrication does not work, the metal surfaces rub and this carries the material . The parts no longer work as expected. They begin to get stuck, hit and break. Good lubrication can be found by changing the oil and filter.

In addition, special attention should be paid to the loss of oil. Leaks must be repaired immediately. They are not only dangerous for the engine, they are also dangerous for the environment. In addition to standard oil condition control, it is also necessary to control the oil pressure. The oil pump often fails without warning. When the oil indicators turn on, it means that the oil pressure is too low. If you detect a oil leakage, the oil pump is often responsible for it. This can be avoided, if this pump is changed regularly. In this regard, each vehicle has its own interval, but oil pumps are usually a durable part. This will not happen to you less than 150,000 kilometres away.

A cold engine, a healthy motor

To operate optimally, the engine needs an ideal temperature. Metals develop under the influence of heat. In order for a hot engine to work properly, its components must remain cold. With a good operating temperature, everything stays in place in the engine. However, if it is exceeded, the elements expand, which causes the same effects as poor lubrication : the parts begin to cut and get stuck. If the piston is stuck in the cylinder, the engine often breaks. Engines, however, are built in such a way that their destruction occurs last.

First of all, the cylinder head gaskets melt, or the stuck pistons lead to the explosion of the cooling pipes . The pressure relief valve can trigger the radiator caps, which will immediately turn off the car. The origins of an overheated engine are leaks of the cooling system or a faulty cooler. The discharge of the coolant will cause the engine to exhaust at some point. The cooling capacity decreases and the engine temperature continues to decrease. This is often noticed by a strong formation of steam from the engine compartment. A cooler can leak, be rusty or clogged. This is noticeable when the engine temperature is constantly too high.

A glance at Cooler can help you here: If the slats are rusty and broken, the cooler should be changed as soon as possible. Advice can help you when circumstances do not allow you to do otherwise: With the development of the thermostat, the engine will cool to the maximum. It will not reach its optimum operating temperature, but this can at least avoid overheating. However, this emergency solution should not be used for more than a few days. With a new cooler and a sealed cooling system, overheating should be avoided.

The cooling pump is a wear part of all vehicles . It is positioned in an accessible way on either side of the vehicle. A squeak will make you realize its breakdown. It must then be exchanged immediately, otherwise it can block what the refrigerant stream breaks. In many vehicles, this pump is used for belt tension. It can be changed when replacing the timing belt. This prevents, that the pump is overloaded and causes problems.

Engines need controls

Thanks to the engine control, the timing of the drive shafts is included. All engines contain a crankshaft and rod shaft. The crankshaft takes the strength of the pistons. Cane shafts open and close the combustion chamber valve. The crankshaft and rod shaft must move in a well-synchronized manner. If harmonization is lost, the engine is threatened. The upper pistons can hit against the valve, which can twist it. This is a very big damage to the engine, which can often cause the death of the car. To solve this problem, the entire engine must be completely dismantled.

The Motor control comes from two systems, which are: Timing chain Timing Belt Toothed which are tightened to the engine.

Both parts have the same function: they connect the shaft of the rod and the crankshaft. If the crankshaft rotates, the shaft of the rod rotates automatically. When the belt or timing chain comes loose, the crankshaft rotates a little more. Which leads to the described damage.

The timing chain normally lasts longer than the timing belt. Modern timing belts are very durable. Depending on the vehicle, a maintenance cycle of 100,000 kilometers is possible. Damage can be avoided by adhering to this cycle. Timing belts suddenly break after long activity, while timing chains deteriorate shortly before breaking completely. This is noticeable when the engine operation becomes noisy. A tensioner belongs to the timing chain, which pushes against the chain with a synthetic gutter, to maintain tension. The tensioner is also a wear part, which needs to be changed regularly.

Treat your engine well

In order for an engine to work for a long time, it is necessary to pay attention to the following things:

  1. Avoid overspeed hoses
  2. Avoiding Underwater Pipes
  3. Use frost protection
  4. Don’t make the wrong fuel
  5. Avoid Inactivity Damage

Always keep your engine well is one thing, but the daily use of your car is also decisive for its service life. As we have said, an engine needs a specific temperature to operate optimally. Rapid accelerations should not occur if the engine is cold. Driving with too high speed range is very heavy for the engine. The hotter the engine, the more fluid the oil will be. If the engine oil is too fluid, it will no longer be lubricating. As a result, high-speed lines cause internal wear of the engine. In addition, such a way of driving exposes the risk of permanent overheating. Driving in underspeed is also dangerous for the engine because the fuel does not burn completely. This forms coal inlays on the valve and on the pistons, which will then reach the oil circuit, which will clog the oil ducts. As foreign objects, its inlays can also cause notches on moving parts. Moving parts of the motor have a hard surface. If damaged, the pressure will act on soft materials. The damage will be more and more substantial. Motors overheats especially in winter. This happens when there is no antifreeze protection in the coolant. Frozen water in the engine compartment can also directly damage the engine. Water stretches when frozen. This creates high strength, and can burst the housing, ducts or containers. The motor block can be scratched. In this case, the engine usually cannot be saved. When gasoline or diesel are confused when refueling, the engine can also damage. The oil pump is usually also concerned, and many other components can be damaged by bad fuel. If you have refuel a bad fuel, do not turn on the engine! Fuel must be removed. This of course has a cost, but remains cheaper than a repair.

When the vehicle is idling for too long, damage may occur. Vehicles must be switched on at least one minute per month to avoid damage caused by inactivity. By pressing the brake strongly, the brake caliper remains usable.
