Charlie Hunnam and Morgana McNelis have been together for 15 years and they are as in love as ever. Although the actor and his jewelery designer girlfriend are the first to admit that any successful union requires work, they are proof that marriage is not a prerequisite for engagement. In addition, it makes a relationship more “real” or more likely that it will last.
As Sons of Anarchy star told us Weekly 2017, Morgana has always been the brightest star of her life.”Sundays are home with my girlfriend when I’m the happiest,” he said.

Charlie Hunnam and Morgana McNelis are together forever, especially by Hollywood standards, but this does not mean that their romance was effortless. As Charlie told people, being in a “long-term, completely monogamous relationship requires work, a lot of work.” This includes a conscious effort, “trying to keep romance on the reg” and a commitment not to become complacent.
For example, before the actor joined the premiere of Papillon 2017 at the Toronto International Film Festival, the actor decided to do something special to make his girlfriend. “Before coming to TIFF, I stayed until five in the morning because I decided to clean up the whole house,” he said revealed. He also did the laundry and bought food because “I thought it would be nice for them to go home with everything that is flawless and done. I put flowers in the bedroom and in the kitchen, so she came home and was happy,” he said.
It is easy to take love as a matter of course, if you are together for so long, but even small gestures can help maintain a strong bond.
For example, Charlie spent “literally all day cooking” for Morgana’s birthday in 2017. When he said to people, “She had about 15 of her friends, and I cooked a great meal for everyone, and we drank good wine and dragged out. It was a nice day.

As an actor, Charlie Hunnam had to engage in quite smoky scenes on the screen, but this has never been an off-screen problem because he has the full support of Morgana. Indeed, when he was first offered the role of Christian Grey in Fifty Nuances of Grey (which he, but later refused), he did not make a decision without first consulting his other half.
As Charlie HollywoodLife said, Morgana was “part of the decision-making process” because “she has to share parts of me that she doesn’t really want to share.” It turns out that Morgana “loved books” and was “very excited about the potential of this opportunity for me.
Every successful relationship is a real partnership in which both sides feel heard and respected, and if there is one thing that hasn’t changed over their 15 years, then Charlie Hunnam will always have Morgana McNeli’ back.
An example: When online bullies targeted McNelis in 2016, criticized his appearance and questioned his relationship with Hunnam, the actor made a rare appearance on social media to publicly defend his love.
In a since then deleted Facebook post slammed Charlie the Haters and wrote:
He is a smart, beautiful and friendly person who has just tried to lead a simple life and has nothing to do with the entertainment industry. If you want to talk about s***, talk about me, let her out of there.
“ She’s a girl I love very much and i have spent the last 11 years of my life and i hope to spend the next 60 years,” he continued. “She was my loyal and supportive partner long before i had success or money. Why would you attack him out of admiration for me? It doesn’t make sense.
The fact that she had to undergo ruthless attacks just because she’s in love with someone felt like you guys.
‘ No relationship is absolutely perfect
Romantic gestures have helped Charlie get out of some sticky situations over the years because, let’s admit, no relationship is absolutely perfect and the spitting will surely pass. As if the actor did not talk to his girlfriend for five months while shooting at the lost city Z in Colombia.
As he said Entertainment Weekly in 2016, he promised to send to Morgana one letter a day, but he soon realized that the mail system is not working really well. It is completely unreliable. I received a letter from her, and I realized that from the tone and things she said, she received the two letters I sent earlier,” he explains.
Instead of fighting with the postal services, he decided to fully enter the character (Charlie was thrown to play 19th century explorer Percy Fawcett) and stop communication. “What makes me look like a total bastARD,” he jokes.
Fortunately, a cordial Sorry for making a long way and, as Charlie admitted, he was “very sorry”. He reveals how he did it for Morgana, he says: “I had the advantage of shooting in Colombia, where they have pretty beautiful emeralds and a little good market. My girlfriend is a jewellery designer, so I could come back with a pretty big gift. It didn’t solve all the problems I had, but it took me halfway,” he jokes.
You can be married… without being married
If there’s one thing, Charlie Hunnam and Morgana McNelis don’t agree that it’s marriage. As he told Andy Cohen in 2020, he is “somehow indifferent” when it comes to tying the knot. However, Morgana “does not feel the same. She’s very eager to get married, so, you know, I’ll do it because it’s important to her, but I don’t have great romantic feelings.”
Not surprisingly, this comment is coming soon and, as Charlie later admitted to TooFab, it was “a stupid thing to say.” The actor quickly realized that he “really hurt my girlfriend’s feelings. I really regretted saying it because I didn’t think it at all,” he assured. “It was just, frankly, a stupid s***, I said in the heat of the moment.”
Charlie took the time to explain herself better, adding that “the reality is that I consider myself married.”
I suspect that what I was trying to say was that the official sanction of the government meant nothing to me, but romanticism means a lot.
Charlie Hunnam Charlie said at the exit that the family “is very important to me,” explained that he is not afraid of marriage, although he married Katharine Towne in Las Vegas when he was only 18 years old (after three weeks of getting to know each other) and experienced “three terrible, painful and expensive years.”
Like he said TooFab, the idea of “I do” his long-time partner “doesn’t get really nervous because we’ve been together for so long. Sometimes you hear stories of things that change when you get married, and relationships between people, but I couldn’t predict that this would happen with us because we know each other so well,” he concluded.
Although marriage is certainly an important step in the development of many long-term relationships, marriage does not take away any value from union. While some couples decide to follow a more traditional road map, others can’t — it’s neither better nor worse.
For this reason, marriage does not automatically mean a winning relationship. A bond is only really strong if both people feel heard, loved and happy — this is clearly the case for Charlie Hunnam and Morgana McNelis. Because this is the real sign of a successful relationship.
